Hey, I'm George 👋
I'm a computer science student completing my bachelor's at Simon Fraser University.
Nice to meet you!
JAC Smash Club
During my studies at John Abbott College, I took the position of co-leader for the Smash Club for 2 years. Some of my duties included event organization, data collection/manipulation, financial management, manual labour, and more. As a community, we primarily hosted competitive e-sporting events on a weekly basis, often averaging well over 30+ students in attendance. Our success led us to becoming the largest club on campus, at one point. Involving myself within the community as a leader was an eye-opening experience, leaving me with valuable skills and fond memories. I remain close friends with many students from the Smash Club and treasure my time as one of their leaders.
Charity Speedrunning
A hobby I'm passionate about is speedrunning, the act of completing video-games as fast as possible. It's given me success in self-improvement, meeting new people, and even contributing to charity. In 2019, I volunteered as an event organizer for the annual online speedrunning charity marathon dubbed LEGOthon, benefiting St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I was responsible for scheduling, moderation, commentary, performing, and more. The event spanned over 4 days, 12 hours each, and was broadcasted to 50+ viewers on average. Our initial donation goal for the marathon was $100.00, but our efforts were successful enough in raising $671.00! LEGOthon remains an annual marathon to this day and I'm grateful to have contributed to its success.
